We arrived pooped.
Tracy made arrangements for us to stay at a lovely bed and breakfast just
on the outskirts of London. It was an easy subway ride from the
airport, and then a 6-7 block walk. It takes a little getting used to
having all the traffic on the wrong side of the street. |
Against everything they tell you about jet-lag, we couldn't
help but take a nap after arriving. Even so, there was still plenty of
time left for us to rush off to see The Eye in London for our first night
there. While waiting for our turn on the ride though, we snapped a
couple of pictures. You'll notice in the pair above that Matt and I
had the same idea at almost the same time. I was luck enough to even
catch his flash going off. What are the odds of that!?
The building on the right was apparently some place that
was housing a Dali Exhibit at the time were were there. We didn't go
in, but at this early stage in out trip, we were taking pictures of anything
that looked cool. |

Dali was on strange dude to have thought up stuff like this elephant.
As luck would have it, just after our trip, I ended up being sent to
Philadelphia on business, where there was another Dali exhibit
going on. |
Here's Matt and Tracy as we waited for our ride on
The Eye.
You can see Big Ben in the background.

Here's a very pretty lady I found the next day while we were hanging
outside of the Tower of London. I think she must be a stalker of some
sort, because I found her in Paris and Germany as well. |
If you look at the photos we took at
The Eye, you'll notice a row of
brightly lit trees on the walkway leading up to it. This is a shot
Matt took of T & I along that row. By this point in that first night,
we were starting to get pretty darned hungry. We ended up actually
having two dinners that first night.
The second one came at us as a surprise while we were
strolling around in Piccadilly. We were all walking past some cool
looking steak house, and figured what the heck. We polished off
another full meal, and it was one of the best steaks I ever had! |

This is just some weird egg shaped building. It's probably
something interesting and important. In this case, you couldn't help
but see it from when we stood in line for the
Tower of London tour, so we
took pictures of it.
What's worth noting here is that London's filled with neat stuff like
this, and there's no possible way to see even 5% of it in just a couple
days. We'll definitely have to come back. |
This is as close as we could get to St. Paul's Cathedral.
It took us a while to navigate over here from
Westminster
Abbey. We'd have loved to go in, but by this time in the day, we were
exhausted from hiking all over creation, and we were once again famished!
To heck with sight-seeing... we needed food and rest. Yet another
reason to plan a return visit. |

Yet another cool thing.
Stuff like this is all over the place. I snapped this shot from the
top of a double-decker bus we were taking to get away from St. Paul's and
back to Piccadilly for chow. I'd have loved to get a movie from the top
of the bus as it rolled along the narrow streets. |
Yes... that IS what it looks like.
There
we were, strolling along at night, leaving a really neat Japanese restaurant
that we found in China Town (near
Piccadilly) and what do we find right in
the middle of the street?
We're guessing that it just empties directly into the sewer
system below. Pretty darned efficient if you pause to think about it,
and it sure beats the heck out of alternatives. |
