The weather was perfect.
And, having Matt's camera have a wide angle lens was a really, really
good idea. This thing is huge.
We arrived somewhat early in the morning, but even by then the line for
the elevator that takes you to the top of the tower was quite long.
Having little patience, and many other things we wanted to see that day, we
opted to hike up the stairs. |
The stairs only take you to the first two levels.
Tracy got tuckered out making it that far (347 steps!) and left it to Matt
and I to go the additional 327 steps to get to the second level.
Since Paris is relatively flat, and the vast majority of
the buildings or only a few stories high, you get an astounding view from
either level. To fully appreciate the scale of this, click on one of
the images below and look at how big the people are compared to the
structure itself. |

The upper picture on the left shows the view to the North-East, towards
Mont Marte. The second picture shows the view looking towards the West
(an area we never went to). Matt was pleased at how he included the
image of the telescope in the picture, as it looks like a canon shooting at
the city. :-) For even nicer panoramas, check these
views from the Eiffel Tower, or
from the Pantheon.
I found a nice
FAQ
about the Tower here, or you can...

The picture to the right is taken from the first level
looking down at the line waiting to take the elevator to the top. Not
worth it; there's better ways to spend your time in Paris.
